2 YEARS

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress." - Frederick Douglass

Let's start off with the good news. The blog is now two years old sooo... Happy birthday to us! It's amazing to think that I started this already two years ago. If you compare my first posts to my recent posts you definitely see the difference. My first posts were shorter, talked more about my recent week but now I'm focusing more on my feelings, thoughts and activities over a month period.
About the bad news now. I'm thinking about doing a pause with the blog because I really don't have the time to post regularly. I'm studying, I'm working hard. I don't want to start posting sh-t, I like to write long posts with over ten photos at least but these take a lot of time to make. Anyway, let's better continue to my recent activities. I'm not going to talk about my activities this time, I'll let the pictures present my doings.

Well. Like I said, I'm doing a small pause but I have an idea. I'm planning to go study abroad the following academic year (that's why I'm working so much too). I'm always up to new challenges and this might be my next one. I have my eyes on Mexico, USA, Canada and Spain. Good thing is then I finally can write about travelling like I've always wanted. My longest posts so far have been about my journeys in Austria and Hungary and that's so because I loved writing about my experience in a foreign country. That's my real passion I'd like to follow on this blog. And damn, life is a highway and I want the highway to be as long as possible crossing many borders. Also, Arctic Monkeys is back and Simple Session 18 starts tomorrow!

The Final Grill & TB 2017

"First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Damn it, I wanted to write a post before the new year but I totally forgot.. But, f*ck it, let's do it the other way then - firstly, I'm going to share my wonderful Christmas period with you, secondly, you'll hear about my free time during the holiday a bit, thirdly, I'm going to tell you how I sent the past year by and finally, I'm summing up 2017 with my favorite posts and videos from that year.
If have you read my last post then you have some sense of what I have done in December mostly, right? Anyway, I spent my Christmas with my family, peacefully. It was something I needed, a rest. Furthermore, I realized that a theory which states that the older you get, the more pleased you'll be about getting socks as gifts from Santa is true. I got lots of these and at least they're practical.

My lil' bro working hard to get his presents

Well, about my free time now. My favorite band is Arctic Monkeys but as they still haven't released a new album, they aren't doing any live performances either. Some time ago, I discovered an Estonian band called The Boondocks who produce similar music to my favorite band - garage/indie rock to be more specific. When I found out they're going live in their hometown Parnu, I called some of my friends and we attended the event. It was rad! The feeling when you know most of the songs played live is fantastic because singing along at a concert makes you feel united with the performers.

There were some other sit-togethers which you can see on the following photos. The most unique one was the one when we decided to have a mid-winter BBQ - #paegrill. Anyway, the end of the year was fantastic.

#paegrill with Kermo, Pae, Lars, Kevin, Kaspar & Kaba

@ Villa Mähma with Merili, Kristel, Kaido, Mark, Simon & Caspar

The last day of the year was lit! Merili invited some of our best friends over and we had a blast. We bought lots of trashy food because then it's maybe easier to start the "new year new me" thingy later. At first, we stayed at the house and then we went to the city center to see the fireworks and all the friends and acquaintances. I also made myself a promise that in 2018 I'm going to start working out again. Last year, this promise was fulfilled, this one is no different I hope.

According to Spotify, the song mentioned above was the song I listened the most in 2017. I'm going to say that again that Arctic Monkeys is my favorite band but this was surprising even for me. But that wasn't all. I have my moods where I love to listen symphonies composed by Mozart or Beethoven but the thing is that three of their masterpieces made into my top list - I was amazed haha.
Well, about my activities that year.. I hadn't had traveled by myself before 2017. Thanks to Erasmus+ program and my university's organisation called BEST, I got the chance to do that. In spring, I visited Austria (#NOVACATION). The 7-day course on migration issues in Europe was amazing. I met many new people and even met up with one of them in autumn when I went to Hungary (TARARA). I attended a regional meeting of the Board of European Students of Technology there and this was an experience of a lifetime for sure.

For me, 2017 was a Year of Adventures!

And now the three favorite posts of mine that I promised to list here.

TOP 3 FAV POSTS

If I wanted to tell you simply what I did in 2017, it would go like that.
I finished high school. I started studying in university. I was a teacher for primary school students for a while. I organized a camp about programming and creating video games for children. I succeeded in two contests, failed in several. I tested my social skills as a salesman in summer. I visited Austria and Hungary. I had a lack of motivation to write the blog for some time. I attended the youth song and dance celebration. I got on Merili's nerves more than I should've. I found a new cool band called Kaleo. I attended some awesome events like WEEKEND festival and Simple Session. I turned freaking 20 already!

I don't have many videos from the past year but quality over quantity, right?

It's like a tradition to visit Simple Session every year for me, Mark, Härold, Simon and Kaido - ACED IT

My vlog in Hungary, it's my first vlog and I realized I don't really like filming myself - TARARA

A collection of clips and one of my favorite videos, filmed and edited by my good friend MarkMOMENTS

Well, that's all - 2017 out, 2018 in!

Cardboards & Submarines

"Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds." - George Eliot

Well, well, well. Another week or so has passed by and my friends from Viljandi are still thinking that I'm only partying in university. I can prove the opposite, for example when I started writing this post I was in library and I studied 3 hours straight, be proud. It's great to write some actual text sometimes over the numbers and programming languages I'm used to at school.

Okay, we party sometimes too (next to me is Sten, the one I'm afraid who claims my blog's biggest hater title)

So far, I've spent most of my weekends in my hometown. Last weekend, I spent time with my best friends and my family. Because my brother insisted, I bought the new FIFA and after that we went out to eat lunch (Hesburger), it was lit. Furthermore met up with my pals and gals. Viljandi is a quiet town and we just chilled and played football in the middle of the street - it was awesome. Merili and I also found a new way to reduce the stress level that sometimes initiates after socializing. We found some cardboard boxes and we drew faces of people we didn't like on them and after that just freakin tore everything apart - IT FELT GREAAAT! You can see the before and after pics below.

 After

Buuut there is MORE - the upcoming Budapest trip, my birthday (hell yeah, I'm going to start my twenties soon!). I'm going to Budapest tomorrow and I'm quite nervous but I'm sure it's gonna be great. Furthermore, I'm going to throw my 20th birthday soon so stay tuned for the next two posts.
I know this wasn't one of my best posts but I know how to make it even. Just listen this..

Critical

"Sunset is still my favorite color, and rainbow is second." - Mattie Stepanek

As some of you might now, I'm keen on energy and economy topics. I like to dream of myself working in Tesla Inc. in future and I want to contribute to green energy technology because in 21st century humanity needs to change its behavior towards our planet. Otherwise, we will run out of fossil fuels, global warming deepens and the results of these two would be catastrophic.
Tesla Inc. is one of my favorite companies. I like how Elon Musk takes actual steps towards his dreams about future. Even though I have a huge passion for cars that aren't really environment-friendly, I find that the usage of these cars should be decreased. The point I wanted to reach here was that Tesla company is planning to build a few gigafactories around the world and there is a campaign in Estonia that tries to get Musk's attention. The name of the campaign is Tesla Country is Estonia and a week ago I attended an event where we discussed about positive and negative aspects of our country's suitability for the company's new factory. I'm not gonna go specific but in my view, building the gigafactory in here would be perfect FOR ME because therefore I would have a bigger chance working in Tesla Inc.

@Tehnopol

Furthermore, I've been working as a programming teacher with my classmate for primary school students in an NGO for a month or two now. Unfortunately, the NGO has a summer break same as schools but we want to continue with this work with Sander. Therefore, we decided to run a course on our own and currently most of my spare time goes on that. The job is great for me because I get to do something I like and at the same time give something to the youth.
However, everything isn't so perfect as it might seem so far. I had two running competitions coming up a few weeks ago I was ready for them, I was in shape. Well, what happened then? The first race, half of the distance ran and I was just behind the first three, I felt great but all of the sudden my nose started to bleed. I tried to continue but it just went worse and you have no idea how mad I was at myself when I had to forfeit the race. I've had this problem occurring in springtime because of my allergies for years now and I hate it. Because of that, I was removed from my school's representative team for the next race. F**king great, isn't it? Okay, enough of this negative crap. The exam time is actually quite easy. I was ready for worse but right now I've been playing basketball in school with my classmates more than done actual studying.

#NOVACATION

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." - Marcel Proust

I ended my last post with giving some tips where I was for a week. Well, I actually didn't have any clue that I'll be going to Austria, it just happened. My sister texted me whether I'd like to go and I had to talk to my parents and after getting them consent I was sure I would go. That's how I got the oppurtunity to participate in an Erasmus+ project. The main topic of the seminar was migration ("Change Your view on migration") and it took place from March 27th until April 2nd.

10 countries

It was my first ever plane flight but I wasn't as nervous about flying as I was about the meeting. I arrived a day early and there was a farewell party of the last seminar which I attended too but felt like a complete stranger there even though the people were really friendly and nice. The hotel I stayed at for a week was great, it wasn't expensive or luxurious but it had many facilities like a swimming pool, a football pitch, etc.

Leaving Estonia

Like I said, I arrived a day before the official program so now I'm going to talk about the actual seminar. The first official day was quiet, people arrived throughout the day at different times. I went to a town nearby which is called Velden and had breakfast there, alone. When I got back to the hotel, I met a guy next door - Adam from Slovakia. Then more people arrived and at first a typical conversation included a lot of awkward slience but that changed surprisingly fast. Afterwards, we had a getting-to-know-eachother evening and I was struggling to remember the names and countries of the people. Each of us had to make a profile on "Veldenbook" - actually we just had to write down basic information about us, have a profile picture and an inbox. Later on, I went to see the sunset with some lads and we gathered up in one hotel room and tried to socialize somehow.

The whole package

The second day started with a study session, almost - actually we just discussed on what are our objectives and what we'd like to learn or what obstacles we're trying to overcome during the seminar. My greatest fear was that my English is not fluent enough because I haven't had a practise like this before - furtunately, I felt really comfortable talking in English and I participated in many conversations and discussions with no problem. On lunch, we went to the town with half of our group, the weather was fantastic that day, actually the whole week it was warm and clear. I just looked around, had a chat and enjoyed the weather. The craziest event we had that week was the intercultural evening - the main point of the event was to introduce your country's food, drinks, traditions, etc. It got really messed up but it was fun, especially because I was so in the mood for dancing and we had some latin songs playing and I danced with Maria who's from Poland (finally, my dancing lessons are paying off). We had a really great night with Maria and it was cool to watch all of the people befriending. Furthermore, I learned some Italian hand gestures and many cool things from different cultures. I got to know many pals at that night and damn, the Cypriots were crazy - they brought their own country's food and didn't like it even themselves.

Diogenes, Ana and Marvinda presenting their countries

Proudly introducing my country's traditions and culture

On Wednesday, we went deeper into our migration problems and introduced our countries' migration policies. Sessions were planned exactly the way I liked - started at 9 a.m and ended at 7 p.m, between there were lots of coffee breaks and 2-hour lunch. Coffee breaks were great, for the whole week I only drank black coffee, that means that I was giving almost maximum to this project. In the evening, we went for a walk again and realized how beautiful the place was at night. Sadly, because Velden is a resort town then it seemed more like a ghost town because the summer season hasn't kicked in yet.

Adam & Dana

Marvinda explaining me the main problems for minority groups in Portugal

Every day we had a hard time getting up with my roommate Marek. I remember that we even went for a morning run on Tuesday I guess but the following days we just slept until the last moment. On Thursday, we compared different organizatsions which deal with migration problems and later on, played a card game where we had to switch the tables after every round and we couldn't talk and it made us all frustrated because at one point we realized that every table had different rules. The game made me feel like an immigrant in a country which has a different culture from the country I emigrated. The game was brilliant. I'm not 100% sure but maybe that was the day we discovered that we have a table tennis, billiard and table football tables in the hotel. Overally, there were many activities to keep yourself occupied - football field, pool, lake and the indoor activities I mentioned before.

The card game

My group had to represent International Organization for Migration

On Friday, we took a trip to a city called Villach. We went there to see how the migration issues are faced and then dealt with in real life, in practise. It was actually quite similar to my town. We have a NGO which keeps the youth active and busy, in Villach there was a NGO with the same purpose. After some serious "active-listening", a few of us left to hotel but some of us stayed in the city. We bought some food and a few beers and went for a picnic by the river. The view was delightful, really, as I hadn't seen huge mountains before. We had a dinner at pizzeria which name I don't remember and the evening got even more interesting as it was turning into a night. We went to a local pub and turned the slow-paced atmosphere in there into a dance battleground. I wasn't in so good shape with my dancing moves as I was at the intercultural evening but my friend from Poland Kamil subtituted me for that night. Furthermore, we met some locals and we were invited into a club, it was really weird at first because the club owner really wanted us to come and he even gave us many drinks on the house but we left quite early because we had a train to catch at midnight.

 Villach

Saturday was I think the worst day for me. Actually only the first half of the day was unpleasant - in the morning, my allergies kicked in and I felt really sick at first. The day seemed unbearable because firstly, I didn't really have much sleep because of the previous night, secondly, we had to independently do a board game about migration and thirdly, allergies. But the evening was nice, I started feeling better because I knew that I need to stay positive during the camp because it was about to end.

"Should I stay or should I go?" - our masterpiece

#nohomo with Giorgos

As we went to sleep quite late, it was hard for me to wake up again (surprise-surprise). We had finished our board games the previous day and were ready to test these on Sunday. The day was really chill and relaxing, we shared our impressions about the week and what we accomplished and so on. I opened my "Veldenbook" inbox and had some letters in there. And then the magnificent, fantastic, spectacular farewell party started. We had a bufee full of exotic food and lots of Austrian beer. The party was awesome and because I was going to leave at 5 a.m, I didn't go to sleep at all. Firstly, I was with Maria and told her that I had a splendid time with her. When she couldn't bare me anymore and went to sleep, I went to see the others who weren't sleeping yet and said my final goodbyes (but maybe still not final). It would've been much better if I hadn't had to leave so early. However, there's a slight chance that we're having a reunion soon.

Playing a game about stereotypes and prejudices

I really like that everyone had to take a stand and explain their choice

Farewell party

Eszter, Constantinos, Anett & I

Diogenes, Adam, Marek, Constantinos, Giorgos & I - the final farewell party

I just loved that group and I miss the whole thing so much. Marek, my roommate, his music taste is on point and he didn't bother when I was singing in the shower so loudly that he couldn't sleep. Maria, OMG, the most beautiful girl in there for sure and she knows it, we had lots of fun and I hope we'll see again some day. PS to Maria: I don't have blond hair and you can't call me Tomik... Andrew was the "professional dancer" who said "f**k" and "s**t" like really many times when he was not too sober. Anett - "Let's go to the beach, each, let's go get away, hey, hey, what you gonna say." - you know it, girl. Adam, next door neighbor who was one of the first people I met in there. The Cypriots Giorgos and Constantinos were hilarous as hell, they were like a married couple really. At least now I know what means "archidi" in Greek (don't look it up). The whole group was just amazing, the week we spent together wasn't enough. Lastly, of course I'd like to thank the people who organized the program - Marc, Eva, Marco and Helena. Karmen, Eva's daughter, was really cute when she hanged out with me and Maria a few times. The project was amusing, especially the parts when Marc laughed, his laugh was always funnier than the joke he was laughing about.

Morning energisers were, surprise-surprise, energizing

Actually, I'm not that lazy but Maria is smart for sure

Coffee break with Kamil, Johanna, Andrew and Ylenia

Wow, that's a freaking long post. I just lost myself in here but yeah. To conclude my thoughts fast, I had an amazing time, I think it was my best trip so far. I endorse the fact that I only didn't have fun but I also widened my horizons on migration and education topics.

LOVE YOU!
