"You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club" - Jack London

Well, I visited Germany. It’s been a while since the last post but as I said - from now on, I only post about travelling. About the trip now, I & several other guys from my university got the opportunity to visit Hanover Fair in Germany. Hanover Fair is one of the world’s largest trade fairs and it covers industrial technology, energy and logistics.

Group of 15

The 15 of us went to Bremen by plane. After the arrival we rented two cars for the whole trip. Most of us didn’t know each other but we started to get familiar when we walked around Bremen and went to a restaurant together. That day we also had a tour planned. We visited Beck’s brewery and did some beer tasting too. After some history and industry lessons about the company and factory, we were put behind a long table and we were served as many beers as we wanted to. Some of us were quite tipsy after the sit-down. We couldn’t stay for long though, we had to drive to Wolfenbüttel to check into our accommodation. We had some beers altogether and got to know each other.

The second day was the hardest. We woke up quite early and drove to Hanover to visit the fair. As it was the first day at Hanover Fair, we decided to just walk through the whole area - clearly it was way larger than I had expected because it took me a whole day to do it. I even realized later that I had done over 25 000 steps that day. I saw many cool stuff and companies. Astonishing robots were everywhere and companies which I’ve only heard of were there and I got the chance to talk to them in person. Even though everyone was exhausted, we wanted to watch the Champions League match Liverpool vs Roma. We went to a local bar and ordered a few drinks and watched how Liverpool smashed Roma. It was fun.

This was just one of the many halls - the fair had in about 250 000 visitors

The third day was the most productive one. As I had discovered the whole fair area the day before, I pretty much knew where I wanted to be that day. For the most of the day I decided to stay in Hall 27 which was an energy-oriented building. I chatted with a few company representatives and listened to lectures mostly about hydrogen fuel cells, solar power and energy market opportunities. I had some lunch and I knew that there is a test track where one can drive an electric car so it was obvious that I wanted to go there as well. I was hyped that maybe I can drive with a Tesla but unfortunately it had an age requirement of 25. However, I got to test drive a Honda Clarity which is a hydrogen vehicle and maybe it was just that I hadn’t driven for some time but it felt really great. The acceleration was top notch. After the test drive I saw a concert taking place nearby and it was really cringe. Just imagine forklifts, lawn mowers and upbeat rock music altogether.

Anyway, in the evening, most of us were too tired to do anything. I thought about going to sleep early but I wanted to take a walk alone in that beautiful town we settled ourselves in for these five days. As I was just enjoying the time alone, two guys came to me and started speaking German. I told them that I only speak English but they weren’t too good in English and we split up at first but then they came back to me and one of them tried his best to talk with me and the other just tried to talk with me through the other one. It was a little bit awkward at first but after an hour long walk with these guys I heard interesting stories how they had to leave Afghanistan because of the war and how they get to live in Germany. I had never talked to a real refugee before and these guys were really friendly.

Selfies are still a thing, right?

Furthermore, the fourth day in Germany included a lots of driving. In the morning, we visited the fair as usual. This time I listened to a lecture about virtual reality and had a discussion with a guy who works for Autodesk which is a company that produces software for engineers and architects. Sadly, it reminded me that I have some homework to do in technical graphics. We left the fair at the afternoon and headed towards Wolfsburg. On the way there we went to KFC which obviously tasted as good as always.

Look at my face and tell me I wasn't tired

Road trip

We visited Autostadt vehicle museum in Wolfsburg. I loved that I got the freedom to visit it the way I wanted, without a guide. I saw many special classics which I won’t see on the streets. Odd part was that some cars there were really common and basic. However, the classics were unforgettable. After the visit we had a long ride back to our place of stay. This night we partied, it was the last night together so we decided to spice it up.

The last day didn’t start so perfectly. The previous night ended late and drunk. In the morning, we had to clean up the house and give the keys to its owner. In addition to that, we had a tour planned in Jägermeister factory. It was really awesome and all but the only issue was that visiting a factory which produces alcoholic drinks while having a hangover didn’t feel too good at that time. However, I learned much about the history and making of this legendary drink. After that, we did a quick shopping thingy and hurried to airport. We barely made it to the flight home.

Free stuff, aye

Not enough cars in this post already

The whole trip was really amazing and unique. Every time I go abroad, I realize more and more that I love to visit new places and meet new people. Even though I’m not a fan of beer, Germany made me drink it more than I usually would. The first fair experience for me was very educating. Next time I’ll surely know how to prepare myself better and what to expect of this kind of event. I love it that this trip had several different values in it. For example, usually I travel to mostly have fun and socialize. This one was a little bit different because the main reason was to visit the fair and educate myself by talking with companies that are my future potential employers or business partners. Of course the trip had the cultural value too - I drank more than enough beer and visited a car museum. Next time I visit Germany, I’m going to see a Bundesliga match too.

PARTY-ful

"Now let the moment break you, let the feeling come take you. Won't do you no good." - No Good, Kaleo

It's almost Christmas and before it's time to wrap up all the presents, I wanted to make a post about my doings lately. Actually, half of the things that I'm about tell you happened almost a month ago so yeah - "lately" my ass, I'm just too lazy to write posts right now.
Anyway, it's winter and it's getting more and more colder outside and I don't have a car anymore so I helped my friend Karlis to change the tires of his car. Both rookies, we had never done this by ourselves. It took some time but we handled the process quite easily. After that we awarded ourselves with a few burgers, felt like car mechanics. If you know me well, you might know that I have a crush on classic cars, especially I'd love to own a Mustang in future. The point is that after we spent some hours in a garage, I started wondering about going to vocational school after university for a year to train myself more on that field. Also, it connects with my current studies (mechatronics) in university. Just a thought, don't know what the future actually brings.

Furthermore, I'm officially now a member of the education committee and youth council in Viljandi's municipality. I already had the first meeting with the committee and I'm really glad that I can contribute in my hometown's education system. Also, the youth council have had a couple of get-togethers. We discussed about the plans of the following year and even went to test our teamwork skills in an escape room.

Moreover, before I start talking about the hardcore fiestas I've had recently, I and my friend Juhan decided to take part of a start up competition. We have another video game idea and we thought why not try to get some funding at the event. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to get into the finals but one of the organizers gave me a hint where we should reach out next.

Aaalright! Besides the study, I've had some crazy-ass parties too. Four of my friends had birthdays. At the beginning of December, Annika with who I attended WEEKEND festival together, threw a party which was really cool, my bestie Merili had a small sit-down with her buddies, my cousin had a party with his friends and the day after with the familia. Annika's and Merili's birthdays both took place on the same day so it wasn't easy to coordinate myself between the two parties.

Merili's sweet 17

Surprisingly, the whole December has been really "party-ful" - every weekend, I've had some crazy adventures but they're too explicit for this blog (again, dear future employer, hi!). My really great friends Kristel and Mariel aka Deez Nutz also celebrated their 18th birthday. This was crazy, again.. At first, they had a dress-code (70s) but they decided to remove it but finally I was the only one to show up following the dress-code but what can I do, I loved the outfit I had chosen.

The day after the party I didn't feel so good. However, Karlis and his brother Mick tricked me to go to a party in Tartu. I was like "hell no" but I agreed to go if I was the driver. It was really cool to see them drunk while being sober myself. We met up with some of our friends there and visited some pubs and clubs, I also got the chance to drift with Karlis' family van.
And the most recent event, I missed my last test in maths because I couldn't resist an invitation to a dorm party yesterday. So far I hadn't failed any tests and now I missed the last one. It's almost holiday but I still managed to f-ck up.

Asked a security guy take a photo of us in Tartu, this is what the outcome looks like x)

URGENT

"Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity." - Khalil Gibran

Time flies so fast that I had no idea that it has been more than a month since the last post. Anyway, I just wanted to update and say that I'm still breathing and blogging but I've been more busy than ever. The thing I wanted to tell you is that I'm not going to Defence Forces as the plan was because of my health problems (my knees wouldn't handle the pressure). From one side it's quite sad because I wanted to go but I'm positive about it because thanks to that I get to start studying in university right away. I'm coming back to the university topic later but a few events which happened in August need to be written down first.

#Blessed

Firstly, I don't see myself as a politician but as I'm moving to Tallinn and I'm in love with my hometown I decided to apply for the city council in Viljandi. It's important for me to visit my hometown and be useful in making Viljandi a better place. My main goal is to improve our school system - some of you might remember but I was a programming teacher in an NGO for primary school students and organised a programming workshop for children. Unfortunately, I'm more busy now and I can't do these things myself anymore but I can encourage other people to educate others from their spare time. Therefore, if you live in Viljandi and are more than 16 years old then mark your calendars because I invite you to vote for me - nr. 225, Toomas Erik Anijärv. You can vote on the Internet from October 5h till October 10th. The last chance to vote for me is in October 15th where you need to visit the local department to vote.

Nr. 225

Secondly, just before going to school I attended Estonian School Student Councils Union's summer school and it was amazing. The three days I spent in there were both educating and fun. We had many inspiring people who shared their wisdom with us and in the evening we had cool activities which made us even more exhausted. I met many new pals and gals. I also got the chance to meet Juhani Särglep who's one of my favorite social media stars in Estonia. He told us how he worked hard to turn his passion profitable. The most memorable moment from the camp was from the first night. The team woke us up and they were dead serious and told us to meet the others outside. It was 3 a.m or something and for real we thought that someone was missing. Then they told everyone that it's important to stay calm and we had to move through forest to the seaside. It may not seem scary but at the moment it was because I was sleepy and it was dark outside. Then it turned out a prank and we made a huge group photo at the seaside. It was fun.

We were tired as hell but the joy shadowed it

While I was in camp one night the huge boxing match Mayweather vs McGregor took place in Vegas and my roommate and I woke up really early in the morning and watched in on the projector in the seminar room. We were tired as hell but it was worth it. I knew that Mayweather would win the match but secretly I still had my fingers crossed for McGregor. The match went on for 10 rounds and then Mayweather ended it. Anyway, this camp generated many cool memories for me.

Huge thanks for organizing such an amazing event for us, team!

Thirdly, I'm now a university student, aye! First weeks behind me and so far everything seems cool. I've made a few friends from my class and I joined a really freaking awesome organisation called BEST-Estonia. It's an international organisation and BEST stands for Board of European Students of Technology. We had an awesome weekend together - we learned, talked, partied, etc. I'm going to talk about that in the next post because otherwise this post would have too much different information. I actually have so much things planned and I can't wait to tell you about them. Leave feedback and say hi to me so I wouldn't be so late with my next posts.
